About the Exhibition

The exhibition Les lacs sont les reflets de nos reves, composed of a series of photographic images and videos, probe themes of immanent transformations and inversions of structures and surfaces. The notable inversion is, of course, the female figure not as a fetishized sexual object, but as a conflicted subject, floating and agonizing in a non-gravitational space. By blending numerous perspectives and spatial grounds into one, the artist depicts the female body caught in numerous parallel realities, from pastoral landscapes to empty environments.

The photographic surface is, in fact, a deep pictorial image, constructed in intense layers that give the image three dimensionality and a profound perspective. Josepha presents these self-consciously juxtapositions by using digital layers the same way she does in painting, exploring and blurring the fragile lines that separates painting from photography and video. Each spectrally figurative scene appears rich in both affective information and structural approach, yet lingers wistfully in aesthetic ambiguity and ambivalence.

Josépha Blanchet

Josèpha Blanchet (1985, France), graduated Beaux Arts in 2010, with a painting degree. Her art practice is focused on video and photography, but her pictorial technique is still marking her oeuvre. Exploring the world around, in relation to her own inner world in an introspective and autoreferential way, she connects motifs of the real and oniric, of the actual and the imaginary in the narrative scenes, leaving enough space to observers for their individual interpretation.
