Silvia Moldovan

Silvia Moldovan (1983, Sânnicolau Mare, Romania). From 2008 to 2013 she studied painting at the Faculty of Arts and Design (West University, Timișoara).

Her themes are related to nature, animals, human impact on nature and other animals, personal needs, places. She doesn’t use symbols, she doesn’t use metaphors. All ambiguous works, from whose image, title or text the message or subject is not clear, have arisen from a personal need for absurdity (as a reaction to the surrounding world or to one's own seriousness) or from dreams.

Silvia Moldovan’s multidisciplinary approach allows her to explore complex concepts and evoke nuanced emotions, inviting viewers to contemplate the beauty and fragility of the natural world.

Her work is characterized by a diverse range of mediums, including painting, photography, video, and installation art. Silvia Moldovan subtly captures the intimate narratives of the natural world, with a focus on the lives of birds, through the keen eye of the observer that negates human centrism, making room for a thorough analysis to identify symbiotic connections between species, allowing for new possibilities of coexistence.

Silvia Moldovan is the founder and manager of SEPALE, a cultural and ecological association that also serves as a sanctuary for birds and corvids. This sanctuary provides a safe haven for wounded animals while also fostering cultural events and activities. It is within this unique space that Moldovan’s artistic and ecological practices converge, blurring the lines between art and activism, and highlighting the interconnectedness of human and non-human worlds.
